Demo Two: A Saxoflute
A saxophone playing flute and a flute playing saxophone.
We first record a
phrase played on a Saxophone . We chose this well known solo played
by Johnny Hodges for the "swing feel" that it carries. We wanted to see
if we could preserve the specific feel, articulation and phrase of this
solo, when played trought another instrument.
-
Then we perform an analysis
of this phrase using the CAST
tools as in Demo
1.
-
Now we train a neural network using on the results of the previous
analysis so that it learns the spectral behavior of the instrument. We
obtain an approximation
of the previous analysed phrase. This approximation is generated in
real-time, using only pitch and loudness envelopes.
-
Here we feed the network of demo_1, that was trained on the Suling datas,
with the amplitude and pitch envelopes of the saxophone phrase. We obtain
"Johnny
Hodges playing Suling".
-
Of course, we can do the reverse manipulation which consits in playing
the Suling phrase through the network trained on the Saxophone: The Suling
phrase on the Sax.
